Self Test Quiz

This week, students were given a self-test quiz on project management and risk management. This was a good revision of project management methodologies, especially considering the previous module was focused on project management.

By completing this quiz, I’d say that I achieved learning outcome 1, because project management methodologies form part of a company’s culture- some companies are focused on strict, by-the-book forms of agile, while others are quite unconventional in their approach. This, in turn, influences the way that software engineers work. I haven’t considered things from a risk-based perspective previously, so it’s definitely something that I would like to investigate further in my working life.

End of Module Assignment

The module has come to an end, and I’d say that this was a pivotal one, since it helped me refine my critical thinking skills. The research proposal also challenged me- I was forced to evaluate a problem from different scholarly perspectives to build a solid foundation for my research. This was very strange to me- it felt like there were dozens of ways to interpret legacy software, and they’d each produce completely different outcomes; for instance, if I think about legacy software from a risk-based perspective, I could create a theoretical framework from my research. If I think about it from a perspective focused on modernisation, my research could be used to generate recommendations for software engineers modernising legacy software. The outcomes are as diverse as the perspectives, even though there’s only one problem under inspection- it’s a very new style of thinking for me. But all in all, I’ve enjoyed it.
