Learning Outcomes Achieved

  1. Evaluate critically existing literature, research design and methodology for the chosen topic, including data analysis processes
  2. Produce and evaluate critically the resulting research proposal for the chosen topic.

Statistical Inference Worksheets

This week, students were required to complete some exercises on statistical inference by completing some spreadsheets and providing analysis. By completing this activity, I achieved learning outcome 3, because I learned how to complete critical analysis of research findings by using statistical inference.

Collaborative Discussion 2

This week, students were required to continue the second collaborative discussion by responding to three peers. By completing this activity, I have achieved learning By completing the responses, I achieved learning outcome 1, because my responses extended my peers’ findings, which applied legal and academic perspectives to the case study. I also raised an important consideration in the field of ethics: that concern lies around the fact that ethical behaviour may not be legal, as laws take much longer to change.

Research Proposal Outline

As preparation for the research proposal due in unit 10, students had the option of submitting a research proposal draft to get feedback. I received the following feedback:

Thank you for your submission of a research outline for formative feedback.
This was a good attempt and I think you manage to offer a good draft of the outline.
Just a few points you want to keep in mind.
1) Your RQs are fine, but they could use more detail to make sure are workable.
2) The methodology section needs to be included and provide sufficient information on the study design in terms of the kind of methods and justification for their choices.
3) Another important point is that the proposal should include a section where you explain how the project meets the requirement of your M.Sc major –this should come at the beginning.
4) Remember to pay attention to the visuals in your presentation –including charts and tables whenever possible.
5) A Gantt Chart is also a good way to synthesise your planning in a neat and exhaustive way, and I advise including it in the presentation.
Make sure to take good note of these points for your research outline.

I’ll be sure to apply the feedback to my final presentation by adding the content mentioned and showing criticality in my research design. By completing this activity, I achieved learning outcomes 3 and 4, because I received feedback which helped me critically evaluate my research design and presentation content.
